With regards to selecting a figure/hair from a background, you may also want to review the video tutorials by Martin Evening:

These are my exercises:
I am not very happy with the first one but I think the second one looks a bit better as in more natural:
So my Online Identity project will be based on MY OWN online identity. My main online identity is Facebook, therefore I will use this social network site as a template for my website project.
I will “recreate” somehow my profile page of Facebook where each part of it is linked to images as in nowadays society “we show rather than tell”. So clicking on each part of it (Where I work, What’s on my mind, My feelings, Places etc…) you will be redirect to images related to that topic. It will be a sort of a “window” into my “private life” although, it is still ME who decide what I want to SHOW and what I don’t!
Glitch Art really fascinates me so I decided also to include this “strange/abstract” art to my online web project as glitches are basically “errors in communication because of/through technology” symbolising that what you see online is not always what it seems!
This is the first draft:
However, I also thought that I could “glitch” each part of my Facebook content but I am not sure if it would too confusing
Well…I have done it to see how it would look:
As the definition of Glitch is an “error in communication” I thought it could be funny/ironic to use a picture of me and my ex boyfriend to produce a Glitch Artwork.
This is the original photograph:
And this is the Glitch version of it:
Some other example from the same photograph:
As I want to use my Facebook profile for this project I took one of my past Facebook profile picture and made a GIFF from it.
In the first image I was only practicing how to change hair and eye colour. I also used the Spot Healing Brush to retouch skin imperfections, spots, pores and moles:
While in the second image I retouched the skin texture softening it and sharpening the details like eyes, lips, nose, hair etc. I also retouched my face making my eyes and lips a bit bigger, my nose smaller, my eyebrows thinner and my features slimmer with Liquify:
Screenshot of my retouching techniques following the examples.
